Dodeci, Inc. comes anew

I have decided to begin posting all of my art, photography, technology, and related information on the Dodeci, Inc. website instead of here on DavidOverholt.com. This site will continue to focus on me, just me, my pictures, personal portfolio, etc. - and the other will be more of my occupation, industry, and nerdy geekdom posts. For those that have been intrigued by any of the Inspire section links, websites I've discovered about gadgets, gizmos, and hoozamabobs, or the random tidbits on the latest applications, software, and "oh my gosh can you believe Google bought another company?" rants, I highly suggest you head on over to Dodeci.com and/or sign up for the XML feed.

Honestly I'm trying to find the report on the shelter in downtown San Diego staying open a week longer (until April 26th), but I came up on this for your reading pleasure.

Sorry iCal, here comes Google

30 Boxes had a go at it, but who can compete with Google? Google has released their online Ajax masterpiece - Google Calendar. I've been looking for an easy and automated way to synchronize my iCal calendars between my laptop and desktop computers for months now (without paying for .Mac). Now I've found my solution.

Waiting for integration with Netvibes.

Gospel of Judas

I'm listening to this story on Coast to Coast. Pretty interesting. Especially because this is Passover and the days before Judas allegedly betrayed Jesus.

Flight back

Pictures from my flight back from Oklahoma City, OK to San Diego, CA on Monday, April 10th, 2006. I had three seats to myself and a brand new polar fleece blanket to accompany my trip. Cozy.

FOR SALE: Power Mac G5

Also up on the auction block is my Apple Power Mac G5 Desktop. This is my baby. I've loved having the power, stability, and speed that comes with the fastest personal computer available today, but since I've decided to upgrade my laptop, I can't afford to have both. It's sad, but it's got to go.

Dual-core 2.0 GHz PowerPC G5 processor with 1 GHz bus
3 GB RAM expandable up to 16 GB
160 GB hard drive
16x Double-Layer SuperDrive (burns both DVDs and CDs)
NVIDIA GeForce 6600 LE with 128 MB of GDDR SDRAM
One FireWire 800 port, two FireWire 400 ports (one on front), four USB 2.0 ports (one on front), and two USB 1.1 (on keyboard)
Keyboard
Mouse

Product Dimensions: 18.7 x 8.1 x 20.1 inches ; 44.5 pounds

Note that I've upgraded the RAM to 3GB! It doesn't come with a monitor, but I do have a really sweet 19'' Viewsonic LCD that I can sell as well.

With the upgraded RAM and AppleCare, this is worth far more than the original price I got it for. I'm parting with my baby for $2,200 or best offer.

FOR SALE: PowerBook

I'm selling my Apple PowerBook laptop, for anyone interested. I love this laptop. I really have no problems with it (it's the second PowerBook I've purchased). I'm just changing to the new $3,500 MacBook.

Here are the specifications:

Eyes of the Storm

I'm currently watching C-SPAN2's Book TV (okay, ya I'm a little bored) and there is a panel discussion on a new book called Eyes of the Storm by the Dallas Morning News. This is a book of around 250 pictures taken by 14 photographers during Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Amazing stories, pictures, and people.

The book is currently on backorder for over 2,500 books and there are talks of a second printing shortly, but you are still able to purchase the book on the website.

Never nudes in Bethany, OK

Tonight I went with the family to the Bethany First Church of the Nazarene (my old church) presentation of Master Works. Very similar to the performance they have in Los Angeles of classical masterpieces formed by live people, there were ten total artworks recreated. This is the fourth year (maybe third) that Master Works has been shown at BFC, and my mom has helped out with it in one way or another all four years. This year she only helped paint a few of the sets and work on make-up, when she usually performs in the drama presentations as well. It was definitely a larger production than I thought it was going to be, and despite the technical difficulties, it went really well.

Here are five of the ten pieces presented:

A story about weather

Yesterday morning I got on the plane at 6:15am in San Diego. The temperature was roughly 60 degrees and it had been raining for the four days prior. I arrived in Salt Lake City, UT for my layover of 45 minutes and ended up being delayed 1 hour before taking off because it was 20 degrees and snowing. Then I arrived 2 hours later in Oklahoma City, OK to find dust storms and 85 degrees. Today I went to get lunch and it suddenly dropped to 50 degrees and raining (still in OKC). My body doesn't know how to acclimate to this!

Surviving Rwanda

Tonight I went to PLNU to see the Surviving Rwanda presentation of I Have Before Me a Remarkable Document Given to Me By a Young Lady from Rwanda; presented by Point Loma Nazarene University's Center for Justice and Reconciliation and Survivors of Torture, International. Remarkable. I'd suggest trying to see the performance sometime in the next few days while it's being shown at PLNU. This performance was even more impactful, as tomorrow is the 12th anniversary of the day the genocide started in Rwanda.

D'oh!

When I saw they're making The Simpsons Movie, I tinkled a bit. Not a lot, but enough to be embarassed if anyone finds out.

Why We Fight

I'm not sure how long it will be available, but on Google Video you can see the entire movie of Why We Fight. I just finished it; it's really well done and gives some great perspective not only on the military-industrial complex, democracy, capitalism, and the use of premptive strikes, but also features some really good interjections of understanding for the USA's involvement in political, economic, and spiritual policy throughout the world (namely by a former CIA agent at the 1 hour mark).

He may have been the ultimate icon of 1950s conformity and postwar complacency, but Dwight D. Eisenhower was an iconoclast, visionary, and the Cassandra of the New World Order. Upon departing his presidency, Eisenhower issued a stern, cogent warning about the burgeoning "military industrial complex," foretelling with ominous clarity the state of the world in 2004 with its incestuous entanglement of political, corporate, and Defense Department interests.

You know how I roll...

At the charity auction last night I found this ring - valued at $2,800, that I won for the minimum bid of $800. This huge amethyst ring has 20 diamonds around the outside totalling 2.0 carats on 24 karat gold. I can't wait to pawn this sucker tomorrow.

Malibu Wine Classic and train ride

This great tale started Friday afternoon when Hanna and I took the Surfliner train up to Los Angeles. We were the last people to board the train in San Diego, but luckily had no problem finding seats. When we arrived at Union Station in LA, we found ourselves in a bit of a frenzy trying to locate a metro bus to take us to Santa Monica and then hopefully Malibu. Long story short, we arrived in Santa Monica, stood in the rain talking to a very... eccentric... woman with a cat (nay, not a cat - a "creative work of art therapy with fur") while waiting for the next bus, and then after an hour gave up and went to Buca de Bepo's for an amazing dinner. We woke up Saturday morning and headed out with Hanna's mom, Jane, to the Malibu Wine Classic charity for ChildHelp on Point Dume. Hanna and I volunteered from 9am-10pm helping Jane and the rest of the executive committee in preparing for the 2,000+ Malibuians that arrived in two shifts throughout the day for wine tasting, specialty restaurant horderves, desserts, and hob-nobbing with stars. There were a few other "stars" present, but after seeing A Night at The Roxbury how can I not mention that I met Emilio Estevez? EMILIO!!! was actually a really chill, shy, nice guy. Apparently he lives on Point Dume and has a vineyard of his own. We came back on the train yesterday afternoon, through many more camera-dropping, late boarding, backpack breaking shinnanagans. Quite the packed, fun, exhausting weekend.
