I'm dating GI Jane

Hanna has decided, in a flurry of impulsive thought, to bookend her college career. The same week of her freshman year at PLNU she shaved all of the hair off of her head. Last night, she did the same. I'll let her comment on here if more explanation is needed, but basically one of our friends, Marta, was raising money for the Dalit people of India and vowed to shave her head if she raised $1,000. Then Rev. Bob Smith (world-renowned for being the Silver Fox) matched that by promising to shave his head if she reached $1,500 - they reached $1,800. Last night during the shaving of both Marta and Bob's heads, Hanna decided she had become too attached to her beautiful head of hair and stood up to pledge a shorn head at the donation of $2,000. Within 10 seconds they had raised $2,100. I was unaware of all this happening until Hanna showed up last night with a "big surprise" to work on her homework. What can I say? She's impulsive. And if I had a problem with her being zany and willing to do what she can to prove a point or make a stand, I wouldn't be dating GI Jane.

Oh, and believe me - the sarcastic comments have just barely begun!

"Maybe it was your hair that let you know I'm funny."

"I used to know a girl with hair that said that exact same thing!"

Remembering the fool

I just fixed my Search function on this site and was testing it out when I came upon this post from last year - April Fools on Andy. Ohhhh good times.

Portfolio update

I just added a few new pieces to my Create section on this site. Take a gander and let me know if you'd like to download and view any of them.

Fascinating

David also got a sunburn

Hanna and I went rollerblading in Mission Beach on the boardwalk a couple times over the weekend and I was dumb enough not to put on sunscreen while wearing tank top. Luckily we've been getting out and enjoying San Diego.

Look out world.

David got a video camera...

I just hit my first big mile marker with my '96 Honda Accord EX that I've had for a little over a year. 150k and all's well.

Kane was fortunate to receive a couple tickets to the Cuba v. Dominican Republic World Baseball Classic Semi-Final game and after party yesterday afternoon. There's nothing quite like crazy fans, free food, drinks, massages, music, and entertainment.

Google ordered to hand over data, but not all of it.

..denied a request that Google hand over a list of people's search requests...

...The judge said privacy considerations led him to deny part of the department's request.

I deserve a DSC-R1

I decided to take on two projects at the same time (one for WAXIE Sanitary Supply and one for Indyme) that should be taking me about a month or two more than the two weeks I have. So I'm busting my tail to get them done, and everything's running amazingly. I just interfaced my Flash SWF with a Kudos Designer ASK inside of Kudos Runtime and got the input variables from a Magnetic Stripe Reader and Bar Code scanner on a 17'' touchscreen display to properly post to Flash. I'm excited. All this to say, when I'm done with these projects in a week - I'm going to buy a new camera and spend at least one whole day taking pictures.

Not to go on a rant...

SketchUp now part of Google, too.

Dennis Miller: I don't wanna go on a rant here but America's foreign policy makes about as much sense as Beowolf having sex with Robert Fulton at the first Battle of Antetum. I mean when a neo-conservative defenstrates it's like Raskalnakov filibuster dioxymonohydrostinate.

Peter: What the hell does rant mean?

Feedburn me.

I accidently had the RSS feed for my Listen section up earlier, so I've corrected that and you can now subscribe to my FeedBurner RSS Feed. Not only will it tell you each time I post something new on the site, it will also give you a list of the sites I bookmark (so I'll be doing less quick website linking here perhaps...) and also when I upload pictures to my flickr account. I'm still working on having the feed post each time I put something in the other sections on this site, but it's 2:00am and I'm tired.

The most amazing ukelele playing you will ever see

My mom actually plays the ukelele. At least she says she does - I've only heard her play once a very long time ago. I wonder if she's really this guy in disguise. My mom's amazing!

Camping and Hiking in SoCal

As promised, here are the pictures from our quick camping outting in San Clemente (if you can call camping in the OC actually "camping"). We got up to the camping spot around 8pm Saturday night, left around 9:30am Sunday morning, and on the way back decided since we were halfway between the two, to make a quick u-turn and head up to Malibu for the night. We went hiking around Topanga Canyon with Hanna's mom and step-dad for a couple hours then had a great 32 course meal provided by Jane while watching the Academy Awards. It was really interesting watching the Oscars with Tom, considering he's in the Academy itself and actually voted for them. All the dirty little insights into who really should have won, who's helping who with what next film, and the process that goes into the award ceremony.

Getty Villa

On our way back from Malibu, Hanna and I ducked in to the Getty Villa for a couple hours to scout it out. Although antiquity still isn't of much interest to me, it was really intriguing to see the resemblence the Villa had to Pompeii and all of the trouble that went into the reconstruction work of the pieces and the buildings themselves. Quite impressive.

Winter, I thought of how much you'll like the Villa each time I took a picture.

Bye to Big B

On Friday evening there was a farewell party thrown at the Gates/Bulgrien abode for Brian Becker as he makes his journey through the US on his way to spending the next couple years in Congo. Good food, some singing of hymns, and picture taking capped off our celebration of Brian's care, wisdom, and laughter over the last few years at Mid-City.

But as Brian said when he and I parted ways - this isn't good bye. It's just see you later.

Travelin' Man

Wouldn't be a weekend without a trip, now would it? Hanna, Renee, Chelsea and I are heading out in a couple hours to camp in San Clemente tonight. Just a little galivanting around the beach.

So you have something to do while I'm gone, check out this Classic Bill Cosby video:

Last.fm Player

I posted this over in my Listen section, but I'm not sure how many people check the other areas of this site... actually I'm not even sure if anyone's reading this at all...

I've been checking out the Last.fm Player as an alternative to Pandora, and I must say I really like it. Basically the same principle - give an artist you like and they have a "radio station" that plays related music, you can say you like or don't like a track, skip, etc. Still wish you could go back to the beginning of a track, or back to the previous track, though.

Anya + David

I don't go to church for just a couple weeks because I'm out enjoying God's great countryside, and what happens? People start dropping like flies. I found out last night at the Ash Wednesday service that Anya and David are engaged as well (after 3+ years of courting). They're getting married this fall, so the story goes.

I love this picture of Anya and David. Taken December 2003.

Since Michelle and Anya are roommates, that's leaving T to fend for herself. Now taking roommate applications.

Home Away from Home

I just stopped using iSticky for all my ToDo lists and random thoughts. Instead, I decided to put everything on my Home Away from Home. I know I linked to this earlier, but check out this sweet feature: if you subscribe to a Podcast, you can decide to listen to the file directly in NetVibes! Fantastic feature.

I think she's lying...

Michelle says she's engaged. Her MySpace says she's engaged. She has this picture of her with Jordan, and a ring, and a beer. She e-mailed me twice and messaged me once saying she's engaged. But I think she's lying. This is something she'd do. She'd play a trick like this.

Long live Andy Kaufman.

P.S. - Congrats! You're SO getting married to #1 in your Top 8.
