Weekend

This Memorial Day weekend was fairly relaxed and easy going. Saturday morning I made a 3 hour trip to Fry's - for myself and for a present for Eric. From 5pm-Midnight or so we celebrated the birth that was Eric Austin Lee, 25 years ago.

Sunday after church I went with Alison, Josh, Michelle, Heidi, and Alison's Mom to Jyoti-Bihanga Vegetarian Restaurant for their lunch buffet. After that I drove out to Chula Vista for Tiana and Jaimie Augustine's graduation party. Deron, John, and Dave Kietzman made special guest appearances.

Sunday night was Simpsons at the Wrights - which turned in to a nice game of Apples to Apples, then Josh and I played Burnout 3 for an hour or so.

Monday morning I played tennis with Scott, played a little Burnout 3 and ate burritos, washed my car, then went to Poway to BBQ with the Scholler's. We played bocci, ate good eats (including some kosher eats for the Ritblatt's), and watched as Whitney ended up in the pool, then revenge was taken by Tannan on Derek, and finally the dog. Entertainment for sure.

After I got back from Poway I went over to the B-House and watched Waking Life with Scott (great movie, lots of new conceptual ideas for my art - I'm going to buy this movie... or at least have Scott copy it for me), watched Frida with Stef, and hung out with Stevie, Shan, and the band for a bit.

In a few minutes I'm driving up to LA with Tiana, Eric, and Don Ketchum for a free IRF concert at the Key Club. Should be interesting, to say the least.

Dream Log 5-27-05

I was in a store, I believe on a field trip, with my mom. I decided I wanted to buy this new Sony television for my room that had a place for a memory stick and all kinds of other neat gadgets on it. It was a wide screen version of an old retro style 1970's looking TV (example). It was lime green. It was $79 so I was going to buy it. Then my best friend was there and he decided he wanted to buy it. Suddenly we were 6 years old and fighting for it. He bought it first, but I saw it first. And there weren't any more available. I thought I found one left, but it ended up being a really big amplifier for a mixing board. I think we walked out of the store for a minute, then the next thing I remember is I'm back in the store, but it's totally dark. The store has turned evil. There are hills in the store, chubacabras are running around, and I just want to get out. Alison Meyerkord is with me and someone else - not sure who. I picked up Alison and we left the store. I had to carry her through a Civil War reinactment and an old church camp that was in Washington DC. Apparently she used to work at one of the museums or monuments, so she had keys to get in a building. We got inside and went to two separate hotel rooms. We then started getting ready for dinner. She kept changing clothes and putting on more lipstick and taking it off. She wasn't Alison anymore either. Although I think we were still waiting for Josh. I got really antsy. The End.

Clothes make the man

I have a story about donated items. Today, before I went to Bread of Life, I went to the Goodwill store on Rosecrans and found an amazing array of clothes for myself. It seemed that everything I put my hand on not only did I like, but fit me. Amazing.

And how much did 2 sport jackets, 5 long dress shirts, 1 short sleeve dress shirt, and 1 long sleeve t-shirt cost me? 57 bucks. Amazing.

At BOL we found that someone had donated a wig. I think the pictures explain themselves.

a dream for us
lyrics by Appleseed Cast

cause what i feel inside
i dont want to hide
it's you that got to me
its what i want to sing
cause i've got a dream for us
running through my mind
sitting on the beach
looking at the sea
and we're old and tired
and time has made us smile
as we go on counting things
people in the breeze
we're not the only ones
there's hundreds on the shore
looking at the sea
but it's just you and me
if the day never comes
i sink beneath the tide
will you still be with me
or disappear?

News from Vanuatu

Halo Evriwan!

Greetings from Port Vila, Vanuatu. The team here is absolutely amazing. Everyone is healthy, safe, and having a great time exploring God's creation on this side of the world. We must admit - it's gorgeous here!

We (all 15 of us!), plus the Potter Family (David, Sylvia, Jeffrey, and Wesley) are in one house - eating, cooking, cleaning, and sleeping. It's been great to see all the students step up and help in any and every way. It's tight quarters, but we are so thankful to the Potters for their incredible hospitality. Our backyard is filled with other houses of families. They are always happy to see us outside - bringing fruit for the team. Wow! In addition to these families, there are more kids running around then we can count! Always willing to play games, sing songs, or just fall asleep in the arms of these loving students. Tears well at times when you look into the eyes of these children and immediately see the face of Christ.

Our first few days here have been filled. After a long plane flight into Fiji, and another short one into Vila, we came to the house to get settled. That first night, we were greeted by some church members during their weekly Bible Quizzing time. Songs, leis, and a traditional dusting of baby powder were all in order. It was humbling for us all.

The next day, we sent the students on a Scavenger Hunt through Vila. They took the local buses into town (a 15 minute ride if you get a good bus driver). As they located each place on their list, they took a digital picture to share with the group later. Each group ate lunch in the colorful, bustling, open-air market. What an experience! They have all been such troopers.

On Thursday, we planned much of what we would be doing in ministry for the rest of the week. Then, this morning (Friday), we rose early (6am!) for the highlight of our trip thus far. We traveled to a small town called Teoma. There, we passed out invitations to the community for a Pikinini (Children's) Club and Jesus Film showing that we are hosting there on Saturday. As we walked through the village, an entourage of children followed us from house to house. We spoke with families about the Club and the Jesus Film that we would be showing that evening. This was an eye-opening experience for the students as they witnessed the living conditions of the "Middle Class" in their 3-walled shacks and fly-infested yards. They experienced a whole new way of life. It's amazing to see their excitement in returning there tomorrow.

Thank you all for your prayers and support. We wouldn't be here without you. Please continue to pray for the team as it is hot and humid here and we tire easily. Pray that we are energetic in our ministry, that we stay healthy, and that we are continually reminded of God's grace in every day. His hand is so evident here - from the gorgeous view, to the smiles of the people, to the way we have been welcomed into the lives of this community. Praise Him.

(As we sit here right now, we can faintly here Praise songs being sung by the team and a group of local girls in a Bible Study. An absolute blessing.)

Blessings,

Team Vanuatu
(Anna, Glen, Eric, Andrew, Megan S., Jennifer, Erin, Meghan P., Lisa., Katie, Liz, Connie, Mandie, Andrea, Alisa)

Kelly was back over the weekend for Michelle's graduation from PLNU's nursing dept. So good to see her even though it was short lived. I got back Sunday night and saw her briefly at the Wrights' casa, on Tuesday afternoon we caught some smoothies and looked at a building complex Scott may be purchasing, yesterday during the afternoon we went to PB with Stef and one of their old neighbors, then last night a group of us went to Triple Crown to play ping pong, shuffleboard, etc. Good times. I know it's sad everyone, but don't worry - she's coming back for Christmas, ok?

Book Garden

My roommate, Eric, has opened up his beautiful Book Garden for all to join in, cultivate, sow, reap, and gain nourishment by and through. Ya, ya, I know - I don't read books, but for all those that do, and then enjoy writing extensive book reports about their findings even though they've been out of school for years... this is for you.

BookGarden, the short of it:

This site is dedicated to those who love to read books; more specifically, this site is dedicated to those who enjoy reading books and then blogging about them.

BookGarden will serve as an aggregating tool for those who want to not only post their own book blogging entries, but want to find what others have said in their own blog posts about books in which they are interested.

This site is geared toward those who don't just consume books, but to those who thoroughly enjoy engaging themselves in a story, learning about new ideas and people, engaging in theology, and engaging with others on the internet who have similar passions. We hope that your "Book Garden" will be well-tended :)

Remember, the more the help out with the BookGarden, the better this thing will grow!

SNU Graduation '05

What more can be said? It's a graduation. Lots of students that look far too young to be graduating, lots of families, lots of names to be called, some awards, some Scott Stearman statues given out, and then going out to eat with the family. It was a short trip home but I was lucky enough to bare witness to a great spring midwestern t-storm. Hail in the backyard and all. Same night we lost Bentley since our door swung open, but apparently he was picked up by animal control and was back by the time I left this afternoon. Got to hang out with my good friend Kris a couple times, Jenna, Danny, Blake, Brad, Heather, Matt and Bren (they don't count though), Mindy, and Danae. Not enough time to do much else - I was up until 4am each night as it was already! Now... for the pictures:

Bright Eyes

I know I've already linked to this, but I need to make sure you watch it.

Bright Eyes - First Day of My Life

This is here because I got tickets to The Faint and Bright Eyes show on June eleventh two thousand and five at the Casbah, and I can't wait!

Week and such

Tedious, mundane tasks have plagued my workflow for the past couple weeks. Correcting colors for navigation, copying and pasting text, bar graphs, and uploading/downloading files for the most part. Obviously I haven't been very enthusiastic about doing all of this, so work has seemed very slow. I'm working on this - trying a few new venues to see what pops up. "The Group" is meeting on Wednesday to shoot some ideas around - perhaps I can get some work from that. Not that I need to worry with filling up my bandwidth, but I simply want more creative/productive projects to work on. I have a feeling I could get caught in working on small tasks like these for the rest of my life if I'm not careful (not that I'd ever let myself do that). It's just nice since it brings in some money and keeps me busy. Anyways... this last week contained (in no particular order) fun at Moose McGillycuddy's, Earth Day at Balboa Park (Happy Wu-Tang Day) - also known as attack of the killer fundies, lunch with Rach, lunch with Derren and Mark, panel review for Michael Matosian, Bread of Life, Thai Time, Nati's, Tiny's, Deco's, grocery shopping at Henry's, church picnic with bocce ball, Simpsons and Family Guy at the Wright's, and ever so much more.

Tonight I went to Pizza Nova for Mark's birthday shin-dig, then to the Bean Bar for their one year anniversary where Herms, Derren, et al played with a couple DJs, then went to Mark and Derren's apartment for a quick night cap of Martinelli's apple cider, CSI NYC, and a jaunt back to mi casa. I'm pretty dang tired, so perhaps I'll stay in tonight, but we'll see. It's only 10:34pm and I'm a young eligible bachelor. I should be able to stir something up.
