Coachella and Palm Springs

Hanna and I got to talking early on Saturday morning and decided to make a day trip. And what a day trip it was. We first had a big 'ol breakfast at the Antique Row Cafe here in Normal Heights, then drove a couple hours up to the middle of the desert to the Coachella Valley Preserve, which is a palm oasis filled with palm fronds, small ponds/lakes, sand dunes, walking, and sun. After spending a couple hours walking around two separate oasis areas, we drove to Palm Springs for the remainder of the afternoon to people watch, drink Jamba Juice, and then take pictures of a huge freakin' black widow spider made out of a VW bug in a junk lot that we got caught in and had to run away from. We then drove to LA to see Jonathan's band, Quiet Mind, play at Genghis Cohen's. We got back around 1:30am.

Big Bear Weekend

Here you go. Here are some pictures from our little trip to Big Bear and Lake Arrowhead over the weekend.

Nicole has been alive 22 years.

We went over to the Red Sea Ethiopian Restaurant last night for Hanna's roommate's, Nicole LaForge, birthday shabash. After Red Sea, we went to Target and all bought Nicole $5 worth of gifts in under 10 minutes, then went back out to Mission Beach in order to present the gifts alongside ice cream cake.

He loves me, he loves me... ouch!

Hanna decided the best way to present her feelings towards me would be in giving me a venus fly trap for Valentines Day. I need to water it, feed it human flesh, bathe it, and sing to it.

Little did I know, they are actually quite small and are not man-eating puppets.

The UN has declared the small African kingdom of Swaziland to be the world's most HIV-infected nation with nearly 40% of its adult population carrying the virus. Experts say that within 50 years the Swazi people may become extinct unless profound change is realized.

Filled with touching personal encounters and unsettling glimpses into contemporary African life, Dear Francis confronts audiences with the stark reality of the AIDS pandemic. Through this unique story, the film highlights the hope of nation's future against seemingly insurmountable odds... one life at a time.

post-a-holic

It seems to be that I need a reviews or cool-links section on this site. With all the posts I've been doing recently on "hey look at this neat software app" or "I want this gizmo-ma-bot that combs your hair and washes your dog at the same time". Guess what though? I don't just live in the virtual world. Although sometimes I try to binary-ify myself when nobody's looking... This last weekend was pretty darn sweet. Hanna and I had a few fun adventures such as trying to dye our hair... twice... and it still not working. That's what happens when you have the most ghetto dye facilities imaginable: a styrofoam cup from the pizza place to mix in, a newly purchased toothbrush to mix, 4 sheets of foil from the taco shop, and then finding that you don't have developer so the whole thing doesn't work. We ended up cutting my hair as well. Fun video times with that one.... We also went to the Wild Animal Park with Danielle and Kaz, which was a blast. We went at the right time of day to see 90% of the animals, shadows were long, and weather was amazing. Although I did get some work done (it's a drug), it was a pretty relaxing/lazy weekend. Which means it was great.

Hanna and I have so been dating for 1/4 of a year... whoa! :)

Question marks?

I finally found this article on Apple Mail: Outlook Compatibility in dealing with mysterious question marks when sending mail from my Apple Mail app.

iSticky

If you're a Mac user like me, no doubt you have a ton of Stickies notes on your desktop. I'm trying out this new program called iSticky and it's pretty sweet. The difference is the ability to send notes. You can send a note from your desktop - right to another iSticky user's desktop via the iStickyServer, to a phone via the SMS command, e-mail, or Bonjour. I'm definitely going to try using this to sync all my notes between my Macs. Let me know if you're giving it a try, and we can iSticky notes all over each others' desktops.

As I'm laying here in bed, laptop under hand, I just listened to the reading of this article by former Marine and Green Beret, Jack Kelly, on Coast to Coast AM on the Iran riots, Denmark, Syria, the IAEA, and the pieces of the puzzle. Definitely worth the read for insight on the current global situation.

The Getty Pictures

A Getty trip

I'd never been before today, but Hanna and I made a quick trip to The Getty before making our drive back down to San Diego today after a weekend away. I went up to Winter and J's place Friday night, hung out all Saturday, then went over Saturday night and hung out with Hanna's fam in Malibu until arriving home just now. The Getty was great. I'm actually not a big fan of the collection they have on display (I'm not an ancient art fan) and all of the photography exhibits were closed, but we spent some quality time on the interactive guide program finding some sweet 20th Century photographers. One specifically, William Eggleston, reminds me quite a bit of the work Lee Friedlander (also a colleague of Eggleston's) does, as well as my own (if I may say so). I'll be posting some pictures Hanna and I both took at the museum, shortly.
