Zimbabwe police destroy 200,000 homes
I have a prayer request. I just found out this terrible news. Since May 19 President Mugabe of Zimbabwe has been leading "Operation Murambatsvina"--meaning drive out trash--where over 200,000 shacks and makeshift homes have been destroyed by police in an effort to "clean up" urban areas.
By comparison, the Southern California Wildfires of 2003 destroyed over 4,800 homes and other buildings.
Over 32,000 people have been arrested for constructing illegal housing as well. The poorest of the world's poor have literally had their homes stomped to the ground. "Thousands of people who apparently have nowhere else to go are living amid the ruins of their bulldozed homes in the winter chill," one article says. These poor people are "trash" needing to be cleaned up? Many of them are the 760,000 AIDS orphans living in Zimbabwe with nowhere to go. And now they are refugees in their own country.
Do what you will with this information--whether it is writing your congressional respresentative to do something, or what I do not know.
I do know that we, the Body of Christ, are capable of praying for people without homes tonight, people who live on less than $1 a day. Please join in praying for these people this week. I truly do not know what else to do other than to pray in hopeful anitcipation when the justice of our Lord will come and when the poor will be blessed and the hungry fed. And that His will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.
