Doves Concert at HOB

Just got back from the Doves concert at House of Blues downtown. Since nobody I could find has any idea who the Doves are, I ended up going solo, but it actually worked out quite well because the seats available in the upstairs area at the venue were all singles, so I got a second row seat the whole show. The band Marjorie Fair played first - quite good. I believe they're from LA, and this was their first time to play SD. Good opening act for Doves. The lighting and video that went along with Doves was great; especially during their first and last songs. I guess it's a theme recently that I'm a fan of the beginning and the end of concerts. Perhaps because the bands do their best then on purpose? Or maybe because I'm paying more attention? Either way, Doves did great and I'm definitely glad I caught them while they are "State-side".

Oh yes, and HOB is quickly becoming my favorite venue in SD. It's intimate, yet has good bands come through (be sure to check out Fiona Apple on November 28th - tickets on sale this Saturday... $40 is steep, but it is Fiona...) and the accoustics are fantastic.
