Weddings galore

Yesterday I knew of people in 3 weddings in Oklahoma City alone. I went to one - Julie Shutley (used to be Bley) who is my twin. We were born on the same day, 2 hours apart, in Oklahoma City. We've known each other for basically our whole lives. She's now a PR rep or something for a republican senator in DC. So you guessed it, I got to hang out with a bunch of young republicans this weekend.

On Friday night I went to the rehearsal dinner/barbecue/softball game which was actually a great idea - everyone had lots of fun, and then a few of us hung out after that over here at my parents' place. Just chatting, playing darts, and ping pong. They were all married couples or close to it so they were done at 11:30pm. I called Danae to see if her and Karie were doing anything - they were about to head out to Hooters with the groom and his groomsmen, so in order ot hang out with Karie and Danae I had to do that. It was sad - the first place I noticed anyone from high school around OKC since I got here - was 2 waitresses working at Hooters. How apropo. We were there until about 2pm then Danae, Karie and I drove the drunk groomsmen to their hotel downtown.

Saturday I woke up around 2:45pm, after going to bed that morning around 4am, did some work, got a burrito from Taco Bueno to tide me over, then headed to the wedding with the 'rents. It was a nice wedding, a little too much like a counseling session at first - the pastor had 5 main points and illustrations to go with them, but the rest was nice. The reception was at a house in OKC - someone's backyard. It was really nice, ponds, trees, white, etc. It was actually kind of disturbing because there were 98% white people at the reception and the entire staff waiting on us were black. I had to take a picture. I felt like I just walked in to the Great Gatsby. After the reception I went with the wedding party to Tapwerks downtown for a while where I met up with Jenny Shaw, my friend from HS, and we caught up. Then more married couples got tired and wanted to leave so I called Kris and Jenny and I went to where he was - Samantha Atley's house - and hung out and watched kids just out of High School get drunk. We got to be parents, how sweet. I went to bed around 4:30am and had a terrible night's sleep before church.

Today I woke up and went to church at OKC First at 10:30am. I saw Monica and sat with her - she decided not to move to Tulsa and now has a boyfriend. I'm assuming that's what he was - we were never really introduced... After the service i met up with my dad for lunch at Bahama Breeze then went to Best Buy. I saw one of Kris's friends from last night working at Best Buy and he said he got like 4 hours of sleep and had a massive hangover. Ahh kids. I tried to nap this afternoon but didn't work so well, and now I'm about to go out to eat with Brad, Heather, Laurie, and Jeremy. Horray for the 5th wheel. I'm so used to it by now...

One good thing that came out of talking to the young republicans was i got to catch up with my friend Luke Marchant - of the Texas Marchant dynasty. We were good friends my freshman year at SNU and then he left, I left, etc etc. His dad has been Texas house rep and is going to be sworn in in January as a senator for the US. Luke works as a director for Senator Cornyr from Texas. It was good talking to him about politics and just realizing he knows they're all jerks but know they run the country. My friend asked "so do you republicans just sit around and say 'we're such bastards!'" - Luke replied "yeah, but we say 'we rule the world!'" Even though I don't believe in his reasonings - he knows who he is and owns it. I'll be e-mailing him and will be posting some new material from him shortly. One thing we talked briefly about was the gay marriage rift right now - the senator he works for is the leading advocate against it. He actually gave me the only good reasoning i've heard so far. I asked about civil unity and he said "we only give people civil unity if they are procreating and creating more taxable people." That makes perfect sense for a republican. of COURSE it's about the money and power. Why give people more tax breaks and benefits if they aren't "helping society"? At the same time that he watches CSPAN 1-5 on one of his 3 TVs in his house 4 blocks from the capitol, he also watches Daily Show. Last week he met the owner of Clear Channel and hates him. So he knows what he's doing is all crap but doesn't care because he's just about power and money. I definitely respect him for knowing that. He also realizes he'll die at the age of 50 from how he treats his body. More to come on this one folks...
