A Midsummer Night's Dream in OKC

I just got back from watching our friend Ryan Dobson's performance of Oberon in A Midsummer Night's Dream at Shakespeare in the park up in Edmond. Brett and I didn't feel like spending money, so we snuck in through the forest while Brad had a coupon that got buy 1 get 1 free for he and Heather. How thrifty. We traveled there in Brad's new Kia Rio Cinco (who knew the trunk was a door?). I had Sonic for dinner. I'm hungry again. The performance was pretty good - most of the time it was all highs and not very much diversity in character, but everyone stayed in character and were very dynamic. Brett and I decided our favorite thing about the theatre was that the actors could actually run off in to the woods for an exit - and because it's Midsummer the whole play is in the woods. That worked really well. It was also a really nice night - good strong wind and clear sky. Not a whole lot of people showed up, but it really didn't matter. We thought the funniest part of the play was this old lady that played the part of Moon. She was pretty confused the whole time and would stand in the woods where people could see her before her entrance. Then at the end when Bottom does his long death scene he grabbed her dog and pretended like it was attacking him - but broke it. She looked SO confused. Then after the "performance" they all danced the Charleston. Why? Brett decided because that's the only dance the old lady knew how to do. Probably the only real criticism I'd have is they had Puck as a very masculine and weird man. Puck is traditionally a very feminine role - performed by either guy or girl - he/she is a fairy! Not a fan of Puck as a Soggy Bottom Boy like they had him. Other than that, good show.

Tomorrow I'll probably hang out with Brett some and then at night I'm going out to eat with my parents for my b-day that was last month. Mike Glass is also calling me to come by and look at the Sprite so I can take inventory and hopefully - HOPEFULLY - get the car out to CA to work on and drive. Sure would be nice, but expensive. Money I don't have! Who knows - sooner than later I may be finding myself a part time job.
